Sacred Names Movement

« Back to Glossary Index

Scripture encourages the use of the original Hebrew names of the God of Israel and Jesus. There is debate as to the exact grammatical rules and pronunciation, so there are a few varieties that are used.

While Hebrew Roots Christians often use some Hebrew words and Hebrew names from the Bible, we are not a part of the divisive “Sacred Names Movement” which excludes fellowship with others who don’t use their preferred names, some also demand others to become baptized in those names in order to be saved. Some also demand others not use the names “Jesus,” “Lord,” and “God” but only the Hebrew terms.
